Ah-ha! Life!

I'm sure those of you that read this blog have begun to wonder if it will ever recover from its dormancy. I apologize again for its lack of activity the past few months, and won't even begin to list out all of the excuses. :P I'm afraid that this is a rather sporadicly-updated blog sometimes...That being said, I am planning on picking back up on the activity (Lord willing). Hopefully 'These Three Remain' will get, at the least, a new look sometime soon. :) Many, many thanks to my readers who have continued to visit this blog!

Hopefully sometime soon I will write out a longer "Life Update" post for you (much has been and is happening in my life), but in the meantime I will try to keep this blog busy with other things. :)

And I shall start with photography! One of my innumerable passions.

The other day I took my little four year-old sister (Becca) and Cody, the family's golden retriever puppy, on a walk down to the nearby pond. Though we didn't get to spend much time there (on account of the extreme heat, despite the fact that it was almost 5 PM), they seemed to have fun--"Baby Girl" (my own special nickname for my littlest sister) especially enjoyed seeing the ducks and watching the little minnows along the shore, while Cody had to be restrained from chasing the one and jumping in after the other. :P

Anyway, I took a camera with me: here's one of the results. :) (If it's not a large enough format, let me know, and I'll link to another version of it.)

I love hearing from you guys--please drop me a note if you get a chance!

Cody

For Mrs. Ezzo, who (I am told) has requested photos of our new golden retriever, Cody, and for any others who care to risk turning green from envy! ;)

Tease Me?!

Well greetings! I trust that all of you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I know that we did...I have so much to catch up on with you all! I'll be going "back in time" with my posts to update you on the holidays, if possible, but for now I have more recent events to relate to you.
About a month ago my mother, Kara, and I flew out to Georgia for a week long conference. The experience was so life-changing, and I learned so much, that I will have to cover it in several posts at some point. The information is just too invaluable to keep to myself--have you ever had that sort of feeling? A sense that the knowledge that you have just gained is so vital that you almost have to share it? That's rather what I feel about this, so I will (Lord willing) be able to convey some of what I learned at that conference with you at a later date. Ah, I have begun to ramble--back on topic. ;)
Anyway, as I was saying, we attended a conference in Georgia. As we returned to the airport, we stopped at the rental car return. Mommy talked with the man who was collecting the information about the car, while Kara and I gathered up our things. The man soon finished his questionnaire and Mommy too checked through the car for any remaining personal items. Soon, however, the young man (I wish I knew his name! :P) returned and said, "Mrs. [our last name], did someone hit you?" Mommy quickly replied in the negative, and stepped out of the car as he informed her that there was a large dent in the trunk. As she came to the back of the car, she was confused--there was no damage that she could see. The man quickly said, "Just jokin' with you, m'am." My mom, relieved, laughed and then commented, "I'd think you'd get punched in the face if you pulled that one too often!" He chuckled and said, "Yes, but you've got to do something to make this job interesting!"
Think that's unusual? Oh, we're not finished yet! As we approached the security checkpoint in the airport, my mother temporarily misplaced the boarding passes. After five minutes of scrambling around, they were recovered, and with all three passes firmly in hand Mommy passed through the "metal detector." Once on the other side, the worker there commented to her, "If you still want to leave either of them (pointing to Kara and I) behind, take advantage of it now--you have both their boarding passes!"
As our bags went through the "X-ray machine" scanner (for lack of a better word--what are those called, exactly?), the security personnel in charge of the machine paused it for a minute, consulted with each other, and then continued. One of them approached my mother where she was gathering her possessions and said, "I'm sorry m'am, but the chicken is going to have to go, and so are the fries." (We had purchased some Chik-fil-a for dinner, unhealthy as it was, as the flight did not serve dinner, and we didn't have time to stop and eat on the way to the airport.) My poor mother replied, "Oh, no! That was going to be our dinner...." The woman quickly interrupted her and said, "Oh I'm just joshin' with you, m'am." Mommy laughed (more out of consideration than actual amusement, I believe, although I thought it was extremely humorous!) and said, "What? Do I have 'tease me!' written across my forehead or something?" She then explained what had happened previously, and the worker chuckled, hugged Mommy, and said, "Just trying to make it light, m'am; just trying to keep it fun." Whew!
Well, just thought I'd share that story with you all; hope it brought a little chuckle, at least, to your day. ;)

Lord willing there will be many more posts/updates to come, so please check back often, and feel free to drop me a note anytime! :) God bless!

All I want for Christmas is.....

All I wanted to do was make a batch of our Christmas fudge. We've done it every year around this time ever since I can remember, and nothing was going to stop me from doing so again this year--not even when my mother told me that we couldn't use our traditional recipe because it uses Marshmallow Creme, and Marshmallow Creme contains the deadly (I'm serious) high fructose corn syrup. So, after doing a bit of research, I decided to make my own Marshmallow Creme--simple enough, right? As I began to get out the ingredients, I pulled out the "light corn syrup" as required, and discovered, to my utter annoyance, that this also contained high fructose corn syrup!! Off I went to my mom, asking her if we had any corn syrup of another brand. She replied that we did not, and that she did not even realize that the corn syrup contained HFCS. :P So back I went to the computer to find a recipe or appropriate substitute for light corn syrup. I finally found one, and soon had a jar of amber-colored liquid sitting on the counter; my corn syrup substitute. That went into the Marshmallow Creme recipe, and that into our traditional fudge recipe. All that, just for fudge. *sigh* Oh, but it was worth it...

A Short Reflection

I sit on my bed, my bedroom being almost completely dark, with the exception of the light coming from the screen of my laptop; in the next room, I can just hear my grandmother listening to a lecture CD on her computer, and even clearer is the sound of my sister practicing piano on the other side of the house, playing a Haydn sonata slowly and steadily. I, meanwhile, am reading an article on Wikipedia regarding philosophy and its different forms, trying to find the sort that describes the idea focused on in the book that I am to write a report on for my English class. I have a window open (the weather is still in the 70’s here, though it’s winter—this should be illegal), and I can hear, faintly, distant cars, mixed with the sound of the night creatures’ songs. I can look over and see my calico, Faith, sitting at the open window, enjoying the fresh air, as am I.

My sister’s serenade has now switched to a Grieg nocturne, and I take a break from realism, idealism, and rationalism, realizing how long it’s been since I spoke in the blog world…You all have been quite patient with me and my lack of posts. :)

As I sit here, trying to decide what to tell you all first, what is most important, what would you like to know, I realize that there is so much to tell that I don’t know where to begin. The world of college is in a completely different universe (so to speak) than that to which I am accustomed—I am so very glad that I am living at home, where I can refocus and reprioritize. I am very blessed to have many friends in the music department who come from similar backgrounds (i.e. Christian, conservative, and often homeschooling families), but the larger percentage of the college is not so inclined. I don’t know what I would do had I not the training and the anchor that I have in Christ.

Besides that aspect, however, college is going beautifully. My professors are absolutely fantastic (even my liberal Political Science teacher :P)—they are down-to-earth and personal, and have a genuine concern for their students. My classes have fairly light homework loads, which is such a blessing, as I still have piano practice to get in. I’m doing well in my classes, and am very pleased to discover that I will never need to take more than 12-13 hours of credit per semester (because of my AP tests). This, too, is an amazing blessing. Over the past week especially God has filled me with this incredible joy and peace, and I feel that with Him guiding me I will continue to soar, and continue to grow in His wisdom. College has been a trial, a growing experience, and a blessing all together so far, and I know that it will only get better and better.

Thank you all for your patience, your prayers, and your support—and, though I might be rather slow in replying, please send me an e-mail or even a letter if you so desire; I’d love to hear from you!

God bless!

Questions

"Here I am
In a river of questions
Can I pour my heart out to a listening ear?
I see this life
Its valleys and mountains
And I think of all the roads that brought me here

I've questioned my reasons
The life I'm living
I've questioned my ability
To judge wrong from right
I've questioned all the things that I've ever called certain
My race, my religion, my country, my mind

But the one thing I don't question is you
You really love me like you say you do
Hold me

I've questioned my significance
Meaning and relevance
Does the work I'm doing really matter at all?
I've questioned my friendships
Alliance, dependence
Who will still be here when I fall?

Only one thing doesn't change
Only one thing stays the same
All I know at the end of the day is your love remains"

I think that these lyrics by Paul Coleman pretty much describe where I am right now...I am so blessed in so many ways, and I know it--I could go on for days, weeks, months, even years listing all of the ways I am blessed. But I am also struggling. College is an entirely different world, and the decisions I make during this time could affect the rest of my life. Am I doing the right thing? Should I pursue this music major? Can I pursue a music major, with the four hours of required practice, while still doing a nearly hour long commute between home and college every day? Is that what God wants? What are His plans, His purposes? Is it His will that I pursue this, or should I reconsider? Does it even matter? How do I balance the importance of school with the importance of relationships? Dedicating four years to 4 hours of music practice a day is a monumental decision--how can I know what's right? Please pray for me! What about my other passions; film-making, video editing, photography, etc? Should I take the fact that I did receive the 4-year scholarship into account? Would He have given that to me if that's not was I was supposed to be doing? As a new friend at college told me recently:

Don't ask God to bless what you're doing; do what God is blessing.

Lord God, I'm not sure. I don't know. I'm weak. I
know that I'm weak--I need your help.

I need You, need Your help
I can't do this myself!
~Rush of Fools, Undo

Jesus, please help me to see what you see--your ways are so much higher, I can't even fathom them; but please open my eyes to your Truth daily. Draw me closer Lord, to thee. Please be my strength--I don't ask that you give me the strength, but only that you do what I in my flesh and human nature cannot.

I...am...weak.

I admit this and acknowledge it, Lord! I need you--for in my weakness, then you are strong. The weaker I am, the stronger you become in me. Fill me to overflowing, Lord, with your peace, joy, contentment, and zeal.

I am yours.

You promise never to leave me or forsake me--I am your child, daughter of the King. I serve you willingly, out of love, awe, and respect. You said that no one can snatch away those whom the Father has given you; I am safe in your arms forever and ever. Even when I can't see you, feel you, hear you, or sense you, I know you. I know you are there...you are in me, beside me, behind me, before me, and protecting me.

I am strong.

Not in my own strength--the Holy Spirit dwelling in me is that strength. Your presence in my life is that strength. Your Word is that strength. You are strength.

You are.

And that's all that matters. You are--you are everything I am not; but you can't be what I'm not for me until I admit what I'm not. You are.....You are. You are.

Adios!

Well, I'm off tomorrow (at 4 A.M.) for Mexico! Our church is partnering with another, and we are all heading down for a 6 day mission trip! My dad and I are going on this, while the rest of the family will be leaving the following Tuesday to drive up to Illinois for a conference. After the mission trip my dad and I will fly up to the conference....when this is finished we will be driving up to Michigan to visit some incredibly wonderful cousins! (Traci, Tralene and family ;) ) The next leg of our trip will be to drive through Canada to Niagara Falls, and then all the way down the east coast, visiting special places and friends. :D So that is our general plan....as far as my blogging schedule goes, here it is. Starting Saturday, I will probably do little if any blogging, as I will not be bringing my laptop; I should return the following weekend...in the meantime, please vote in the poll on the sidebar and let me know how you think I can improve the content of my blog! As a perfectionist, I'm always ready for improvement. ;)
When I come back, I should have lots of pictures from Mexico, and as the next 4 weeks progress, I will continue to keep you all updated with pictures and details! :D God bless you all! (By the way, I'd love to come back to lots of comments! I know there are some of you who read this and have never commented! *hint hint* :P )
Please keep us in your prayers as we all travel! Thank you so much!

Whirlwind

The last two weeks have been an absolute whirlwind for us. Thank you all so much for your prayers; we survived! :P God has been so good to us.
I'm not sure exactly where to start, but I guess the beginning would be a good place. Let's see--the real "whirlwind" started Monday morning, May 7 (Kara's birthday :D). I had AP testing at one of the local highschools on Monday, Thursday (my b-day, and I had a graduation rehearsal that same day), and Friday (two tests in a row that day!). Whew! Needless to say, by Friday evening I was exhausted--well, "brain dead" was the phrase I used several times, I believe. Then a mad dash to get everything needed Saturday morning and we were off for my graduation, being held at a huge church close by. That, ladies and gentlemen (wait, are there any gentlemen who read my blog? ;) ), was absolutely incredible. Our homeschooling group put this graduation together, and, well....how to describe it! It was beautiful--we were all amazed. There were twenty-seven homeschoolers that graduated (from our local homeschooling group)! Sometime in the near future I hope to get a video of it put together for you all. We had one of the the Justices of the Texas Supreme Court give the commencement address; that too was phenomenal! I could go on and on about it, but I'll save that for another time when I have pictures and/or video. ;) Anyway, the week after my graduation, I had four more AP exams, the last of which was that Thursday. I am finished with AP exams!!!! Finished! Praise the Lord! :) I am completely finished with highschool (well, except for a few lessons of Spanish II). So this past week has been a sort of "wind down" time for us; pretty relaxed compared to the past few months.
So, thank you all for keeping us in your prayers; the whirlwind is past (I think! :P), but please continue to pray for us. If you all have any prayer requests, please let me know so that I and my family can keep you in our prayers!
Lord willing, my posts will become more regular now, so be sure to continue checking in when you get the chance!
God bless you all!

I just had to do it!

Ok, for those of you who know me at all, you know that it would take something extremely exciting for me to do this-but believe it or not, I did. As I walked back up the driveway after getting our mail the other day, I saw what I had been looking for (for weeks)-a letter from the college I'll be attending in the fall (yes, I've been accepted! :D). It was from the School of Music there. I could hardly wait to get inside. I plopped the mail on the counter as I entered the house and quickly ran my finger under the envelope flap, so excited and expectant I could hardly stand it-my heart was beating a thousand miles an hour. I opened the two pages enclosed and read the first words, "Dear Kristen, Congratulations! I am delighted to inform you...." I had been chosen for the 4-year music scholarship!!! Then I did it; yes, I really did. I danced. :P I jumped up and down, twirled, and danced! :D When I went in to tell my mother, I don't think my smile could have gotten much bigger. :P Praise the Lord!! I now have 3 scholarships to this college, and I am soooo excited! Oh, I can't tell you how excited I am! All I can say is wow, what a "God thing"-indeed it is! Wow-how amazing, incredible, and awesome He is! :D :D
Whew! So that's my big news for the month! (lol) My life has been as busy as usual; I have had several activities to prepare for graduation, including senior pictures and bios for the graduation ceremony (which will be on May 12)...that, AP studying, and piano has been just about all that I've done the past month. ;)
Our weather has been absolutely gorgeous lately (I consider rainy weather gorgeous, too, by the way :P). Everything is sprouting, turning green, and flowering, including Daddy's garden! :D Yes, he has already had the first of his crop (squash), and his tomatoes, peas, corn, cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelon, and peppers are well on their way. In addition, Daddy has a little space for some herbs this year! :) I'll be in charge of that. :D
So, I have less than 2 weeks left before my AP exams and my graduation, after which I should be relatively free! :D Our summer is already being planned, with a wedding (:D guess who's?), a mission trip (to Mexico!), and a conference (in Chicago) decided on so far....I'm looking forward to it all!
Thank you all so much for your comments, notes, and prayers! They mean so much!

I don't know how to say exactly how I feel
And I can't begin to tell you what your love has meant
I'm lost for words
Is there a way to show the passion in my heart
Can I express how truly great I think you are
My dearest friend
Lord, this is my desire
To pour my love on You

Like oil upon your feet
Like wine for you to drink
Like water from my heart
I pour my love on you
If praise is like perfume
I'll lavish mine on you
Till every drop is gone
I'll pour my love on you

Busier and busier....

Hello again, everyone!
I'm afraid that I am a bit overdue for an update! As Kallie mentioned in a comment a while back, life only seems to get busier-such is the case in my life at present, anyway. :)
In case you all have been wondering about me, well, I believe this picture will speak for itself! :P

I have had to "hit the books", as they say, since January and will probably stay there until May when I will graduate ;). So I apologize for my posts becoming so scarce and inconsistent; it is only a temporary condition, Lord willing, but a very necessary and hopefully a productive one. I am studying for several AP tests ("several" being a slight understatement) from about 10 am to 10 pm most days (with breaks, of course!). The tests will be administered in May, and then I should have a relatively free summer! :D In addition, I am increasing my piano practice time considerably, as I recently auditioned for a scholarship and admission into the college from which I hope (Lord willing!) to get my major in Piano, and at which I am currently taking piano lessons. :D Please keep me in your prayers, as these are very important events that will shape the next 2-4 years of my life, most likely; needless to say, I need and want my Lord in on these decisions! I would really appreciate yours prayers; that the Lord would give us (my parents and me) wisdom and guidance, that we would make the right choices and that I would use my time wisely, etc...thank you all so much for your support and encouraging notes! Please don't hesitate to leave a comment or drop me an e-mail; I may not be able to respond promptly, but they mean a lot! Thanks again for your patience in my so far scarce updates-by the middle of May (at the latest) that will hopefully change. :) Love and blessings!
-Kristen

"There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him."

Ecclesiastes 3:1-14

Homestead Heritage

Ok, I promised a post regarding our Thanksgiving weekend trip, so here it is! I'll start with trying to explain the place which we visited (not an easy task). :P First of all, it is called Homestead Heritage. Basically, it is a large group of believers (around 800 people) that live as a community and "live off of the land", so to speak. Actually, they live in a manner similar to that of the Amish, I suppose; however, they do not believe that modern appliances and technologies are wrong (in fact, I believe that most of them have modern ovens, stoves, etc.), they just choose to live a "homesteading" life. They grow and mill their own wheat, forge tools, make rope, raise cattle, grow and cook much of their own food, make soap, furniture, pottery, clothing, etc., and sell to each other (and outsiders) so that everyone doesn't have to be skilled in everything. In addition, they have a wonderful music ministry. Their choirs and orchestras are phenomenal! For the special Thanksgiving fair that we went to, they have a large tent set up where they perform several times during the weekend. The other special activities during the fair ranged from special soap-making, pottery, furniture making, and wood-working classes to blacksmithing, rope-making, plowing (with horses), apple-cider making, harnessing, and sheep dog demonstrations. They also had hayrides, as well as a petting zoo area for children (or adults ;) ). And I haven't even mentioned the delicious food that they serve! All whole wheat and "home-grown" (or "home-raised", for the meat :P), too!
Well, I think that I have done about the best that I can in describing the community without going into too much detail. ;) (You can visit their website here; also see this page on their site) Anyway, here are the pictures!

^Soap-making demonstration^

^A pottery demonstration
(sorry about the darkness; the lighting in the building was not very good :S)

^Freshly made pottery (no gloss or paint)^

^The finished product :D^

A blacksmithing demonstration

^Ryan with a sailboat that he made in one of the classes^

Grandma (squinting into the sun) chatting
during a lunch break

Here's adorable little Jordan! (the son of the other family
that came with us) Playing in the dirt for half an hour
was the most fun he had all weekend! ;) lol

Becca and Dana (Jordan's older sister) :D...
Aren't they so cute?

And here is a video of the sheep dog demonstration! The only camera
that I had was our little digital one that happens to take short videos as well, so the footage isn't that great (plus I had people elbow-to-elbow on either side of me :P), but you can get the basic idea of the demonstration.

Many blessings!

Baking!

Hello all! I am very sorry that this update is so over-due! I have so much that I'd like to share, and just not enough time to say it all, so I'm going to have to spread it all out a bit....thanks for your patience!
I'll start with yesterday and work my way back. Yesterday was a baking day for me! Yes, I actually had time to bake bread and muffins! You might be wondering how on earth I found time; that would be a very good question, considering that I've been spending about 7 hours a day (5 days a week) working on Physics lately! However, all that time paid off last Friday, when I finished my Physics!!! Yes! I am so excited! I have so much extra time to do the things that had been set aside before, like baking our whole wheat bread! (My daddy is especially glad, as he misses it when we don't keep some in stock!) :D

Let's see....I have been pretty busy with Christmas preparations; I'm hoping to get those finished soon...Our weather has finally started cooling down, praise the Lord! Up until the last week in November we were having temperatures in the 70's and 80's; that would be a bit too warm for Christmas. :P Of course, it had to get down into the 40's just when we're ready to put up the outside lights. ;)
So, that's what has been going on this past week (or two :P ); I'll try to get another update put together soon about our trip that we took on Thanksgiving weekend (with pictures :D)! :)

God is so good! Many blessings!

Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord for a beautiful day in the 50's-60's (finally!), for chats with close friends, and for......our piano!!!!!! Yes, our grand piano came in today!

I am so excited!! It's a beautiful glossy black, 6' 1" Bohemia grand piano....there is so much difference between this piano and the upright Yamaha that we were playing on :P....no comparison in what you can do with it. I played and played it almost as soon as the movers got it set up (except a short break to let other people try it :P); I love it! Praise the Lord! :D
Love and blessings!

Bits and Pieces

Ok, I'm going to update; I will not get distracted by e-mails, by terribly interesting websites, or by conversations....so here goes! lol
This is going to be what I like to call a "bits and pieces" post. :) Bits and pieces of information I'd like to share, but no one main theme, or any simple way to make them into one, if you want an update before next month! lol :P

  • First of all, my sister has been "metaled"(borrowing the words of my friend Kaylene)! Yes, Kara got her braces and a palate expander put on this week!
  • I know this is extremely belated, but happy birthday to my friend Paige! Hope you had a blessed one!
  • Our piano is scheduled to come in sometime next week!! (notice I said scheduled)
  • Our Grandma is coming home next week! She's been in Michigan finishing up some business, but is ready to come home and leave that crazy Michigan weather where it snows in October, right Grandma? :P 75 degrees in November sounds better, doesn't it? lol Love you and can't wait to see you!
  • In addition, I'd like to introduce Tralene to the rest of my blogger friends, if I may! :) Tralene (who commented on my last post) is one of my cousins from Michigan, and I'm so glad that she's joined the blogging world! So when is your blog coming up, Tralene? :P
Well, that's about all for my life update right now...I wanted share a little something else with you, too, but I'm out of time for tonight. :) I think that'll have to wait 'til tomorrow or Friday...sorry! Thanks to all of you for your patience! ;) Love and blessings!

Back to Normal

Ok, that title is only partially true....I don't think my life will ever be "normal"! :P Of course that depends on your definition of "normal", I suppose. Anyway....We are glad to be back and settling into full-blown school now. I am trying to be finished by the end of this semester, to give me some time to slow down a bit before graduating this May and starting some college classes. So my time has been full of Physics, Spanish, and 15th century history lately! :P I am very much looking forward to getting all of those finished so that I can focus on other things. I am also trying to work up about 7 piano pieces by this May that my teacher and I picked out. There is a special music diploma that you can receive if you meet certain requirements, including learning and memorizing 7 pieces (that also have to meet certain requirements :P). In addition, I took a music theory test this Saturday, which took me about three hours to complete...thankfully it wasn't too difficult, just very time-consuming. :) Speaking of piano...You all have probably been wondering why you haven't seen any pictures of our piano yet. That would be because we never received it. :) I won't try to explain the entire process here, it was too complicated; basically the man we were dealing with was not honest, and we eventually had to drop the sale and get our money back. However, on our way back from Michigan, we stopped by a store in Chicago, from which we ordered another piano that was almost exactly the same! The only difference is that it's a bit smaller; a 6'2 rather than a 7'4. I think that it will fit the room better anyway....assuming that it comes in. :) It is supposed to be here in the next couple of weeks....we'll see! I can assure you that you will know when (and if) the piano comes in!!
Let's see....I think that's about all for this update. I will try to be more consistent in my posts :). Sorry that they've been so sporadic lately!

Thank you so much to all of you who have been praying for me and my family. We had a safe drive to and from Michigan, and the funeral went fairly smoothly....Blessings!

Passing On....

Hello everyone....I just wanted to let you all know that about 2 hours ago my grandfather, known as "Dan" Deneen, passed on into eternal glory. He was a believer, and I can just see Jesus Christ standing from His throne, walking to Grandpa, taking His hands and saying "Well done, my good and faithful servant!" He was ready to go, and now he is at peace with no more pain or sorrow.

We will be leaving soon, in the next couple of days, to go to Michigan for the funeral, and will be gone for 4-5 days...Please keep us all in your prayers; traveling safety for all of the family members, in addition to comfort and peace, especially for my grandmother. Thank you so much! Blessings to all of you!

Psalm 139

Thank you all for being so patient for an update! Sorry that I've been so delayed. Things have been very busy here....we have had hospice nurses in and out for my grandpa, and lots of company. I just want to thank you all for praying for us, and let you know that we are probably going to lose my grandpa in not too terribly long...It seems right now that the Lord has decided to take him home to heal him. Grandpa is such a servant; these last few weeks have been very hard for him...he's had to get used to being served and being the center of attention. Thank you again for your prayers; I just wish I had better news for you all!

This psalm is so comforting....the psalmist wrote it so beautifully, and it touches me, so I wanted to share it with you.

O Lord, you have searched me
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar

You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O Lord.

You hem me in behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"

even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,
I am still with you.

.....

Search me, O God, and
know my heart;
test me and know my
anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive
way in me,
and lead me in the way
everlasting.

Psalm 139:1-18, 23-24

Prayer Requests and Update

Hello again everyone! I have an update on my grandpa's condition...I'm sorry that I've been so delayed in getting it to you. My grandpa was on a new chemotherapy for about a month, but, unfortunately, this chemo did not work either. So he is now off of all chemotherapies, and actually is in the hospital right now...the other night his fever was 102, and he was in so much pain that my grandma had to call an ambulance to come and take him to the hospital. Please pray for healing for him, peace for my grandma, and wisdom for the doctors and us as we are trying to decide what to do next in terms of cancer treatment for him. Thank you so much!

I have one more prayer request. A few weeks ago, little Rebecca came down with the chicken pox! :S It was not fun! Now, even though they have been immunized, Ryan and Joshua also have it. Besides the itching, they have a high fever and overall pain at times...please keep them in your prayers! Thanks again!

As for me, I have been busy with different summer projects and catching up in school....I'm hoping to be finished with all highschool work by the middle of the school year or so.

I had hoped by this point that I would have a picture of a beautiful Bohemia grand piano in our living room to show you, but I don't. :( For many "unknown" reasons, the piano has not arrived on time. How can you lose a 7' 4" grand piano? They seriously don't know why it hasn't been delivered yet! lol Oh, well. You'll know when it's here! I'm so excited!!

One last thing. We'll be leaving over Labor Day weekend for a family camp up in Indiana; I hope that I'll be updating before then, but just in case I'm not able too, you'll know why.
Thanks again for your prayers!!

Blessings!

I'm back (for now)!

Hello everyone! I know, it's been a long time since I updated....I have a good excuse, though. :)
Take a look at this:

This is our whole family on my mom's side! My grandparents, my aunts, uncles, cousins....33 people in all, for one day. Then we had 25 for one more day, 24 for three more days, and then 19 for the rest of the week. It was so much fun!! From swimming almost every day to Dutch Blitz'ing ourselves to death, we had an absolute blast!

So that was my life for a week...now I'm getting ready to go on a weekend mission trip! My dad, Ryan, and I are going with a church group today to another church near the Louisiana border to help them rebuild; they're in the middle of an addition and also need help cleaning up after housing people from Hurricane Katrina. We should be back by Tuesday evening....please keep us in your prayers!

Also-my grandpa is going in to have a CAT scan sometime in the early part of August, so I'll let you know what the results are; thank you for keeping him in your prayers!
Again, I'll be back Tuesday evening....
Blessings!

A few laughs

Hello everyone! Sorry that I've been so long in updating; life is almost non-stop right now...we have had company in and out for a while, and we're getting ready to go to a weekend conference this coming Thursday. Immediately after we get back (Sunday), we'll have more family in for a week or so; at one point we'll have 27 people in the house at one time! :D It will be very interesting, but it should be a lot of fun. Thank you to all of you who are praying for my family, and specifically my grandpa. He is doing much better now that he is on a different chemotherapy; I will try to keep you updated on his progress!

Anyway...these are some clippings that my grandmother showed me from a magazine....enjoy!

"Voice mail is my sworn enemy--I have never understood how it works. Finally, I broke down and called the office operator to walk me through it. 'I can send you an instruction sheet,' she said.
'Great, fax it over.'
'Sure,' she said, 'But fax it right back. It's my only copy.' "
-R.B.

"I went to a store to buy some insecticide. 'Is this good for beetles?' I asked a clerk.
'No,' he replied. 'It'll kill them.' "
R.A.

"I heard the dog barking before he and his owner actually barreled into our vet practice. Spotting a training video we sell, the owner wisely decided to buy one.
'How does this work?' she asked, handing me a check. 'Do I just have him watch this?' "
-B.C.

"I was on line in the cafeteria of the hospital where I work when I overheard a doctor ask an anesthesiologist how his day was.
'Good,' came the response. 'Everyone's woken up so far.' "
-J.G.

Oh, and I'm working on an update from Independence Day...lots of pictures to come! Have a great night! Blessings!
